Yahoo is teaming up with six apart, makers of typepad, to provide blog hosting aimed at businesses. 5 gigs of space and 200 gig of bandwidth is a pretty good deal for 12 bucks a month.

The disadvantage of a hosted system like this for a business is you lose one of the main benefits of a blog, driving traffic to your web site. A decent blog with some relevant content to your potential customers, partners and employees does more for your sites visability on search engines than anything else.

Here’s an example of fantastic business blogging. This design company called fizbang (I love that name), wrote an article called “how to improve your logo”

Logo “touch-up” is one of our most frequent requests. Our final work must be more effective, more visually appealing, and most importantly, recognizable as a revision of the old logo. How do we go about this? I wrote this guide both to offer potential business clients insight into our graphic design process and to help aspiring graphic designers.

Simple stuff but it demonstrates their thinking in a way that’s informative and non-salesey, and it contributes to their credibility as a design firm.
