It’s not surprising that more people do searches for “plastic surgeon” in California than any other region, but I must say, I was surprised at the volume of searches in Texas.

Even if you’re not interested in plastic surgery yourself, this demonstrates the importance of regional queries on search engines. Most people are looking for something nearby, especially for complex products and services which require some kind of phone call or in person appointment to close the deal.

I guess everything really is bigger in Texas (cue rimshot)!
Texas has a ton of people - I’m more surprised by Georgia. But when looking at these lists, it’s important to remember that Overture results are often tainted by webmasters who think that they know about marketing by running rank-checking software (webposition gold, anyone?) multiple times per day through Yahoo which inflates the numbers highly.
For example, I ran a search (can’t remember the exact phrase) for Internet Marketing consultants. Well, I’m not moving to Wisconsin, because apparently all the Internet Marketers moved up there. Or… there is just one really dumb one spamming Overture.
I usually doublecheck in Wordtracker or keyword discovery - but of course all this is just for brainstorming anyway.
